Kari Kojonen – Linked In

Main interests: economic geology, exploration, ore mineralogy and environmental mineralogy.Joined 1985 in the Geological Survey of Finland (GSF) in Kuopio, diamond core drilling in Pieksämäki Ni-Cu deposit, massive Zn-Pb-Cu sulfides in Haapavesi, Rauhala deposit and gold deposits in Ilomantsi (Pampalo gold mine). The new mineral pampaloite was published  in 2018. Transferred 1987 to the Espoo office of GSF focusing on the ore mineralogical studies of Ilomantsi gold deposits, the Kevitsa Ni-Cu-PGE deposit in Sodankylä, and Suurikuusikko gold deposit in Kittilä. PGMstudies of Vammala and Hitura Ni-Cu deposits and Kemi chromite deposit. A new mineral tarkianite  described  from the  Hitura mine.

In 2003 initiated placer PGE mineral study in Lemmenjoki and Ivalojoki, Northern Finland, two new PGE-minerals miessiite anfd törnroosite were characterized and more than 40 PGE mineral species discovered. Besides scientific interest exploration of source rock of the PGM was important. A paragenesis of Nb-Ta minerals with native Bi, cassiterite, native Pb, thorianite-uraninite and wolframite were discovered in the same placers, the source of which is unknown.

Commission on ore mineralogy, secretary and vice chairman for 12 years, IMA Council member for 8 years, Chairman of MinSocFin since 2012. Ni-Cu-PGE exploration in  2013-2016 in Tammela and Forssa area, Southern Finland. Registration of private consulting company Mineral Research in May 2016 for geometallurgical studies in the exploration and mining industry.
